PreJury II – Change Climate Change

Ankara Stream has been the source of water for many years for livings who live in Ankara. Until a few years ago, it was the spine of the AOÇ. Ankara Stream Joined with Çubuk Stream is coming from the north and Hatip Stream is coming from the southeast by taking shape of meander because of the Hatip Stream. So, the stream flows to the Sakarya River. Lands around the site as the dominant character were AOÇ by the way although the Ankapark Project was assumed as a rehabilitation project for the stream it did not occur like that. Based on this ecological problem, I designed a treatment center. In a similar way, I continued the bazaar in a certain area of the site. In addition, I proposed it to be used in agriculture as a water source and activity venues. I mean that the Ankara Stream. For this reason, I have connected the AOÇ with the terrain and continued the field of agriculture on the old traces of the Ankara Stream. Since I thought the old form of the water channel was slowing the flow, I tried to change the stream upright from one end of the site to the other. Pooled as required by the treatment centers made water channel and these ponds have been graded to increase the speed of water. Then, as a next step, I have directed the buildings towards to Kale, Gençlik Parkı (AKM) and Anıtkabir. The buildings are rushed through the stream through the middle of the site. The axes often affected the program. In fact, one purpose was; there were two borders in the site. I wanted to connect both of them with structures by forming bridge and green areas.

The Site & Initial Proposal

First, the Arch401 studio for this architectural project was analyzed. Based on the analyzes, three different areas were selected from three different regions within Ankara. These lands are on Dikmen, Mevlana Boulevard, and Akköprü. My land in Akköprü location, Ankamall Shopping Center behind the wholesale market was the land. This land was in the area of Atatürk Forest Farm years ago. The first suggestion was asked from the land analyzes around us. My suggestion is that when I consider the Ankara Stream, Aoç and Halle, which is already on the site, I wanted it on a scale of urban design with a multiplicity of complexity.

“GORDION” as a Case Study

In the way to goes through the multifunctional architectural project, We are expected to analyze some cases in terms of its location, circulation, serving and served areas, car parking capacities, ecological standing etc. Gordion Residence & Shopping Mall is my group’s case to analyze it in Ankara. The complex that composed of residence and mall, near to public transportations are bus stations and subway that even has direct connection with mall.

PreJury I – Existenzminimum

In our group work, we talked about a mutualist relationship in terms of both ecology and humanity. First of all, I set the minimum unit as the climate of “dry Mediterranean climate”. According to my research, with the increase of temperatures after 2050, soils in the Mediterranean will become inefficient and tourism will decrease due to the temperatures. In addition, I can say that based on my research; It is possible to increase the water treatment and efficiency by using the plants which are resistant to arid climates and easily reproduced. Based on this information, I thought the units rising from the ground, leaving the ground to completely arid climate-resistant agriculture in a dry Mediterranean climate. These units have the least amount of sutain without any other. I tried to design a double façade system that can be moved according to day / night conditions in this climate change, especially where the temperature rating is high. This gave me semi-open social spaces. This closure system wants to work as a rehabilitation center against heat. As a material, I used the black pearl of the Mediterranean climate. I also used larch in the structural elements of the outer wall. The elements of the internal structure were also used for water feces and steel. From inside to outside; I have tried to create an eco-human unit based on research-treatment-production center, as part of the food that is ready for use and as a resting and eating place on the outermost. Then I tried to install a natural ventilation system. I installed the ventilation system at an angle. Since the roof is inclined towards the middle, there is a water collection system and this system has a storage center under the ground. Food, water, and animals can be produced with each other. For this reason, the animal layer, mill and oil squeezing centers (local common units) can be added to these rings.

What is “climate change”?

The beginning of the 4th year 1st semester project that assigned as “Change Climate Change.” It starts with the group work than it is going to be individual. We as a group who are Hazal Gürgöze, Melike Zeynep Silahşör, İpek İmdat and me are expected that make a presentation with the scope of the “Climate Change.” We mainly focused on the keywords “climate” and “change” separately. According to research that we made to understand the causes, effects and responds to it.

Greenhouse gasses are mainly Ozone, Carbon Dioxide, Methane and Nitrous Oxide that provide heating and insulation properties to the atmosphere. In this way, the temperature of the waters in the world remains constant. The formation of the curtain effect of the waste gasses causes the sun’ rays heat more and the ozone late to be perforated. Harmful sun ray entering from the drilled layer. That causes the climate to be distorted and changed by overheating. Therefore, natural cycles are disrupted. According to Earth System Research Laboratory, human activities from the beginning of the Industrial Revolution, from about 1750 until the beginning of the last year, resulted in a 40% increase in the carbon dioxide density in the atmosphere. With the Industrial Revolution, especially after the Second World War, human activity increased the number of greenhouse gasses every year and reached high rates because of the use of fossil fuels, slaughter of forests, use of synthetic fertilizers, industrial processes and livestock. The increase in the amount of the gasses anormal and the continuation of this increase is the reason for the deformation of the climate balance of the world. Even Though the greenhouse gases have a big role on the life on earth, there is a significant increase in the last a few centuries. Due to this change is an abnormal thing, it has some consequences. That sudden increase in greenhouse gasses’ impacts is mostly negative things such as high temperature, drought, rising sea levels and increased numbers of diseases, floods and forest fires. These are created uninhabitable conditions which cause the extinction of both animals and planets. Warm weather conditions and droughts enable to desertification from equator to 30° latitude which means that in 22nd century, southern parts of Turkey started to be a desert. Due to high temperature, melting glaciers cause to rise of the sea levels. According to Levent Kurnaz, after 2070, there is a possibility of Kadikoy subway will be under the sea level. Consequently, we tried to think future phenomenon for the environment with this study and we realized that; while we are studying this climate change issue, indeed we studied on the possible modifications for our future environment, the topic triggered us to come there. As you can remember and catch the beginning of the presentation; we also noticed these “environment” and “modification” issue from the etymology study of the words of “climate” and “change” separately. For further stages, we are planning to do brainstorming on there. (Plug-in is our directive word for next stages presently.)
